Texting Gone Wrong

Texting teens get the wrong number -- a REALLY wrong number

I came upon this article because it was posted at the top of my TigerMail account. It is an article from CNN.com where two teenagers in Montana accidentally texted the Sheriff instead of their drug dealer when trying to buy marijuana. They miss-dialed the the phone number by one number. The sheriff turned over the case to a narcotics officer who set up to meet the two boys later that day. This will go on the kids records but they will not face any other consequences. They sheriff said that the parents will discipline the children.

Now this is absolutely ridiculous! Shouldn't you make sure you have the right number before you try to text your drug dealer? This is a perfect example of how much technology has changed the world as we know it. I can only assume but you used to hear about people dealing drugs on the corner. I don't think I have actually ever seen that happen. I would then assume people moved towards calling a certain person on their cell phones. And now, people are now texting their drug dealers.

This wasn't an assigned article but I thought it was super intersting and somewhat amusing. Hope someone else will too! Enjoy!

  1. You know what I think is one of the brilliant things we can do on cell phones? We can store a whole addressbook's worth of contacts. No more typing in numbers, no more misdialing! It sounds like these two might have been under the influence of the very thing they were searching for.

But also, it's a little wild how text messaging is becoming the most prevalent form of communication.

  2. How dumb do have to be! I bet they were gonna pay with a personal check as well.
I agree with you Merrill, texting is by far the most prevalent method of communication, especially among younger generations. One simply needs to look around a classroom to see that even though everyone's mouths are shut no one is being silenced! The days of passing notes are dead and gone.

  3. You hit the nail Merrill. They must have been under the influence of the very thing...Perfect example of why you should not do drugs..

On the flip side...yes text messaging is by far the most prevalent method of communication. Youngsters probably use more texting service to communicate than the actual talk time minutes. Phones these days have been coming out with the USP (unique selling point) of exclusive texting, wide key pad, sliding key pads, etc.

So the concept of a phone being a device used to talk to someone has completely vanished with texting and emails being evolved
